Simon Goff is a British composer, producer, and violinist whose practice spans contemporary classical music, experimental electronic production, and original composition for film and television. A Grammy Award-winner based in Berlin, Goff is widely recognised for his ability to fuse technical refinement with emotive expression, both in the studio and on stage.
A classically trained violinist, Goff’s solo work explores the dialogue between acoustic instrumentation and electronic manipulation. His debut album Vale (2021) introduced a highly textural and introspective musical language, praised by The Quietus as “a statement of both awe and intent.” His follow-up, Spark Like Living Mothers (2023), continued this trajectory, further developing his intuitive, layered approach to composition. These works reflect his broader artistic interest in expanding the sonic capabilities of the violin and challenging traditional genre boundaries.
Goff’s reputation as a live performer is built on a series of appearances at leading international venues and festivals including the Institute of Contemporary Arts and Union Chapel in London, Funkhaus Berlin, and CTM Festival. In performance, he integrates live violin with real-time processing, field recordings, and custom electronics to create immersive, evolving sound environments. These concerts extend the compositional narratives of his recordings into new spatial and emotional dimensions.
In parallel with his solo career, Goff has established himself as an accomplished composer for film and television. His score for the BAFTA nominated TV series The Gold (BBC/Paramount+) received critical acclaim and has led to continued work on the series’ forthcoming second season. His score for the Czech feature We Have Never Been Modern was nominated for Best Score at the Czech Lion Awards, and he most recently composed for Vlny (Waves), which was shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film and saw him collaborate with the Czech National Radio Orchestra. His screen work is marked by the same sonic detail and emotional nuance that characterises his solo output.
Goff has also contributed to major international projects as a performer, producer and engineer, notably with Hildur Guðnadóttir on the Grammy-winning scores for Chernobyl and Joker. Additional collaborations include work with Jóhann Jóhannsson, Tara Nome Doyle, Apparat, Peter Broderick, and Federico Albanese.
Across disciplines, Goff’s work is united by a dedication to craft, innovation, and the expressive potential of sound. His practice continues to evolve at the intersection of performance, composition, and sound design—bridging the concert hall, the studio, and the screen with equal precision and intent.
